FAQs for Online Therapy

Sounds great, but is it effective?

Will an online/video therapy session produce the same results as a face-to-face session would have?

Yes! Many clients have said that their experience with their online therapist feels the same as face-to-face because they can see the therapist, and they can interact directly, just as they would in an office session.

Still unsure? Research has shown that online therapy can be effective for treating mental health issues, and the benefits to clients may be noticeable and worthwhile. You can check the articles below.*

So, how do video/online sessions work?

We ask all new clients to complete initial intake forms (you can find them on this Website). After completing the forms, and at least 24 hours before your first session, simply email them to your therapist using your therapist’s secure email.

Then, you’ll need a device, but you have several options: could be a phone, laptop, tablet, etc. – with a camera, microphone, speakers, and screen.

Before each video session begins, find yourself a comfortable space to sit with your computer where you will be free of interruptions for one hour.

You’ll “meet” your therapist in his or her home or physical office, in front of a secure computer. We use Zoom for our video sessions – nothing could be easier! Your therapist will send you an email with a link for you to join each session.

All you do is click on the link, and your therapy session will begin!

What about phone sessions?

Phone sessions are even easier! Simply call your therapist at the designated phone number, at your appointment time.

What about technology issues?

We keep it simple and secure, so we don’t expect technology issues. However, if you do encounter a problem when trying to attend your session, don ‘t worry.

Just call your therapist at the designated phone number. Together, we’ll work through it!

All our therapists who engage in online/video therapy have met the required criteria of at least 15 hours of continuing education training to provide technology-assisted services.

Where do clients need to live? Online/Video Therapy Locations

Your therapist can see clients online in any state where they have an MFT license.

State: Texas residents – all of our therapists have an MFT license in Texas.
Utah residents – one of our therapists also has an MFT license in Utah.

Is online/video therapy confidential?

Yes and no.

Yes: We use Zoom, TherapyNotes, and Hushmail. They are all HIPAA-compliant, and we have Business Associate Agreements (BAA) with the technology we use. All communication between you and your therapist is designed to either take place via a phone call or by using strong encryption. All records are also kept using strong encryption and security procedures.

We are bound legally and ethically to protect our patients’ confidentiality, and we’re very serious about that.

Over 18, you have the right to give your therapist permission to speak to a third party, like school, physician, or psychiatrist. And you have the right to revoke this permission at any time.

No: There are exceptions. Your therapist may need to report if he or she has reason to believe there may be abuse of children, the elderly, or the disabled.

Online: As a counseling center, we do have an online presence on social media and the Internet. Your therapist may also have his or her own online presence. Because we still value your privacy and confidentiality, we will not follow, like, repost, or communicate with prospective, current, or former clients (within two years), in any way.

How much do the sessions cost?

The fee is the same whether online or face-to-face. Our therapists set their own rates. Rates range from $100 per clinical hour (50 minutes) to $150 per clinical hour.

We accept cash and check, and we can also easily use your credit card or HSA card on file.

What if I need to cancel?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Hey, we’re human – and we do understand that sometimes life happens, and schedules need to change. We know there are emergencies.

At the same time, when you schedule an appointment with us, we set aside that time for YOU. We respect your time, and we expect you to respect ours. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time, unless it is a genuine emergency, you will be charged the full fee for your appointment.

Do you take insurance?

All our therapists are out-of-network providers.

Your therapist can provide you with a “super receipt” that you can send to your insurance provider to request reimbursement, at your request.

This process is between you and your insurance provider.
